Welcome to the intro page for the HIMSS/SI VTE Collaboration. This community began with 6 care delivery organizations sharing their strategies for optimizing how CDS is used to help ensure that all appropriate patients receive VTE prophylaxis to prevent the leading cause of inpatient mortality. The group is expanding the collaborative to include many more care delivery sites, and will also be expanding to cover other performance improvement imperatives.
The HIMSS Clinical Decision Support (CDS) wiki was recently opened to the public for participation.

Why CDS and this Collaborative? Why VTE?
- VTE is leading cause of preventable hospital death
- •Substantial costs for hospitals; beginning 10/08 CMS and other payers not reimbursing for this hospital acquired complication (and others)
- Approaches, templates, guidance being developed for CDS in VTE with an eye toward scaling to other priority conditions and targets
